Different finishes and styles can feel different than others due to the process required to create and finish each bag. I can absolutely assure you that the quality has not decreased. However, not all of our leathers are going to be soft right out of the box. Our products are handcrafted, dyed, and finished. We must use the safest ingredients possible. Our vegetable-tanned leathers are prepared using pigment-free, plant-based tannins and dyes from tree bark, leaves, and plants. This results in chemical-free, formaldehyde-free, and chrome-free shoes. Our dyes are pigment-free and plant-based. This creates a safer environment for our workers and lends itself to a more authentic process. Our glues are water-based, solvent-free, and used sparingly, only when necessary. We use natural bark from the cork tree mixed with recycled leather shavings to fill the midsole, creating your custom footbed with wear. I see you purchased the Black Lux finish. This finish will typically not be as soft. Our Lux Finish is inspired by the unique appearance of the light dusting of flour on the freshly baked loaves of artisan bread, we took this inspiration back to our factory and developed our unique Lux finish. This finish is applied in a way that allows it to distress based on the wearer. Just as flour on bread can be dusted off, this crackled finish will continue to patina over time. Applied by hand, layer-by-layer, no lux finished product will distress the same way, creating a true one-of-a-kind look for each person. However, we do understand the disappointment in receiving a product with larger chunks of distress and apologize for the mistake in the quality control of this item.
