BED|STÜ: Hey Lindsey & Doris tell us a little bit about yourself and what you were doing before you started Willow Tree Flower Market?

Lindsey: Hi!! We are a Mother/Daughter team who started a fresh-cut flower farm in a small town in Michigan in 2021! We literally built it from the ground up and started dreaming about flowers when there was still snow on the ground. Before we started the farm, we had no real background in farming - we just love the outdoors, working together, and getting our hands dirty. After being a nurse for ten years, I decided to stay home and raise our kids. In the midst of the pandemic and being home, I had this wild dream of starting a flower farm and didn't anticipate it actually happening. I brought the idea to my husband who thought it was a great idea and then asked my mom if she would do it with me....

Doris: Hello! I'm Doris! The mom of Willow Tree Flower Market! I have to admit that I never saw myself as a flower farmer but I always wanted to work at a greenhouse or a nursery when I retired (I was a full-time oncology research nurse when we started this wild adventure!) I have grown up outside, inspired by my dad who loved to garden, and have always had a passion for the outdoors. I am still working as a nurse but part-time now which allows me to spend more time with Lindsey and physically be at the farm.

BED|STÜ: How did the idea of Willow Tree Flower Market come about and to fruition?

Lindsey: I still can't believe everyone said, "yes!" to this crazy idea! I anticipated finding my passion when the kids were a little bit older and in school, never in the midst of truly raising them but God put this on my heart and I am SO GLAD that we listened and took this giant leap of faith. I am now raising my kids out in the middle of the farm, with them by our side, and once we decided to do it - it was a wild ride!!

Doris: I remember walking around in our snow boots trying to guess how many raised beds we could build!! As soon as spring hit, we got to work! It has been a family affair, both of our husbands are hands-on and love to work outside as well and have been a huge help with having our dreams come to life.

BED|STÜ: What was the “our hard work, blood, sweat & tears, finally paid off” moment for you all?

Lindsey: For me, it would have to be when we had our first Grand Opening Market Day....we had no idea if anyone would show up. I was anticipating my brother and sister and a couple of my friends .... I think I cried during the entire event watching the line of cars from the road drive in and never stop

Doris: Oh my gosh, the farm was packed and everyone was so kind and supportive and excited to have a flower farm here in Goodrich. It truly was overwhelming in the best way...I think the moment for me was when co-workers were coming up to me at work asking me what song we were going to dance to for our next Friday Night Dance Party! I about died...I was so embarrassed but also realized that life is short and we want to continue to inspire others to find joy in everything that we do, including dancing (horribly) out in the farm.

BED|STÜ: You two have been BED|STU fans for quite some time – what was your first BEDSTU piece – If you recall!

Lindsey: Oh my gosh- HUGE FANS!! I definitely remember my first piece!! It was the Glaye boots in Tan Rustic....I wore them almost every day when I first got them and still wear them to this day! I was so proud of them and still am. I believe that was back in 2014! Mom- what about you??

Doris:Mine would have to be the same as Lindsey's because I borrowed them every chance I could!

BED|STÜ: Give us a typical day running Willow Tree Flower Market.

Lindsey: Ooooh--- an ideal day would be to start by working out at the pure barre studio together, grabbing a hot latte from our favorite little local coffee shop, getting breakfast for the kids and then throwing on our overalls and a hat and heading out to the farm. We ALWAYS make a list, and we can usually read each other's mind and get to work. Right now, in November - it is one of our busiest seasons. We began planting tulip bulbs last weekend and were able to get about 9,000 in so far.

Doris: Yes! Dad was on the tractor and as we would plant one bed, he would be right there filling it up with compost and then we would level it. We are out there until the sun goes down prepping the farm for next spring...

BED|STÜ: What are your favorite BED|STU’s to stomp around while in the garden?

Lindsey: In the summer - definitely the Claire sandals during our bouquet bar workshops or u-picks. They are so comfy and dress up any farm outfit that I have on! During the fall- I love my Della boots with a cute skirt

Doris: LOVE my Gogo lug boots in the fall - I think I wore those for every Market day!

BED|STÜ: What are your favorite BED|STU’s truly?

Lindsey: My Glaye boots, they are so sentimental to me and have been all over the country with me and part of so many family events.

Doris: I am in love with my Andie bag....It is on me every day....

Lindsey: OH MY GOSH, yes, me too! Definitely my favorite bag!

BED|STÜ: What are you most excited about for Willow Tree Flower Market in 2023?

Lindsey: I think I am most excited about continuing to create a beautiful space for people to gather, escape, and make memories. We are so inspired to create joy and show everyone the beauty of flowers and what a little hard work can do and how nature can be so healing. I have so many ideas for this farm and it is scary but also so exciting!

Doris: Mine, honestly- I love meeting everyone who comes to or supports the farm, locally or even in this huge virtual world! Even this experience with you has been so wonderful and I am just so grateful and excited to see where this dream takes us. It is so beautiful to see that there are so many kind people out there who appreciate and believe in us and who also inspire me to be better every day because of their own kindness and passion.
